Scroll #612
Temple Solel’s Czech Torah scroll is Memorial Scrolls Trust scroll #612. It is an “orphan scroll”: its original community is unknown. The scroll came to Solel in January 1969, three years after the congregation was founded.

The Memorial Scrolls Trust received Czech Torah scrolls in London in 1964, preserved them and entrusted them on long-term loan to communities around the world. They carry the memory of Jewish communities destroyed in the Holocaust.
At Solel, the scroll remains part of Torah reading, worship and B’nei Mitzvah life. Remembrance is connected with the continued practice of Jewish life.
Learning and remembrance at Solel
Jay Levinson documented the scroll’s story and created Solel’s seventh-grade Character Development Through Holocaust Studies class. The congregation also adopted a relationship with Liberec after learning of a member-family connection to postwar recovery there. Liberec is not the scroll’s proven place of origin.
